Rebuild Performance Counters - SharePoint Distrubuted Cache Issue: Event ID 1008, Event ID 2004

Getting these errors in the event logs:

Event ID: 1008
PerfLib

The Open Procedure for service "WmiApRpl" in DLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiaprpl.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

The Open Procedure for service "BITS" in DLL "C:\Windows\System32\bitsperf.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

Event ID: 2004
PerfNet

Unable to open the Server service performance object. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the status code.

If the performance counters are having an issue on a SharePoint server, the distrubuted cache will have an issue. Without the distrubuted cache working, user profile sync, newsfeed and other items will also have problems.

Here is how to rebuild the performance counters.

On one server, these failed and could not be rebuilt.  This server had to be removed from the farm and I started fresh with a new server, installed SharePoint and rejoined it to the farm.  While I was waiting for the server, I just stopped the Distrubuted Cache service (through central admin) and it was a good work around.
